Lost Sheep

Items Needed: Button, a stuffed lamb Play the game, button, button, who’s got the button.Pass a button as if you are passing it to everyone, but only one is passed the button. Give the children opportunity to guess who has the button.

Have you ever been lost? Have you ever got separated from you mom or dad at the grocery store. How did it feel? Who found you. What happened that caused you to get lost. Luke 15 Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? (I add a lot more details than does the scripture.) The shepherd had 100 sheep. That’s a lot. There are a lot of wild animals that love the taste of sheep. Sheep have no natural way of protecting themselves.

What would you do if a wolf tried to eat you?Sheep don’t run very fast. A lion, wolf or bear could easily catch a lamb. What would your do if a wolf tried to eat him? He would bite him. Sheep are not good bitters. What about you cat, how would she fight back? Scratch him. Sheep don’t have claws.

The Shepherd has an important rule. Stay together! Don’t wonder off by yourself, stay close. When they stayed close together, the shepherd could watch all of them and protect them.Pull out the stuffed sheep.Let me tell you what this guy did!He saw a blade of grass, a little further away from the flock of sheep, but it wasn’t too far so he went over and ate it. It was good tender grass. He looked back toward the others, and then he saw another. Abut again it was just a little further than the las bite of grass, but not too far away. He could see every body just fine. Then there was more grass, a little further, and a little further and a little further. Then he looked back and everyone was gone. How did that happen? A little bit at a time. What are some ways you can do a little at a time and find yourself in big trouble?Examples: Not doing homework, Not studing and getting behind the rest of the class. What if some one offered you something a cigarette, or alcohol, or drugs, and say try it once, could that get you away from where God wants you to be? Feel free to take this discussing to places of interest to the children.Tell them here’s the good part of the story.Hold the stuff lamb in your arms as if you’re lovingly holding it. Tell the rest of the story. The shepherd left the 99 to search for the one lost lamb. Why?He cared for all his sheep. The one was in trouble. He searched until he found the one that was lost and he was so happy. He carried it back to the 99 and call his friends together to help celebrate. And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ Do you think Jesus celebrates when we are lost and in trouble and then he finds us?Lost means living in sin, it means doing the wrong .He wants to forgive us. He wants to help us to do the right things in life. If you pray and ask him, he will always find you.

"And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’
